Zermatt and the Matterhorn: The Perfect 2-Day Alpine Getaway
If you’ve ever dreamed of waking up to one of the most famous peaks in the world, then Zermatt, Switzerland is your place.
Nestled at the foot of the Matterhorn, this alpine village feels like it belongs in a postcard.

The Charm of Zermatt Village
Stepping off the train in Zermatt felt like entering another world. The little station buzzed with excitement, but as soon as I stepped outside, the energy softened into stillness.
No cars, just the quiet whirr of electric taxis and the sound of my own footsteps on cobbled streets.
The village itself was pure storybook charm, wooden chalets leaning into each other, geraniums spilling from window boxes, the scent of fresh pastries drifting out of cafés. I found myself walking slower, just to take it all in.

Viewing Platform
The viewing platform is the main draw, a wide, open space where you get sweeping, unobstructed panoramas of the Matterhorn, surrounded by glaciers and rugged alpine ridges. It’s one of the best spots to truly take in the scale of the mountains and feel the crisp air at over 3,000 meters.
The Chapel

The iconic observatory building with its twin domes is more than just a landmark, it’s the Kulmhotel Gornergrat, the highest hotel in Switzerland. Inside, you’ll find a restaurant and terrace perfect for soaking in the view, and if you’re lucky enough to book a stay, you can even spend the night surrounded by starlit skies.
Zooom the Matterhorn
A small interactive museum that brings the mountain closer through technology. Inside, VR headsets simulate a Matterhorn climb, immersive displays explore its geology and climbing history, and a periscope lets you zoom in on fine details of the peak itself. It’s both educational and entertaining, and a great way to warm up indoors while still staying connected to the mountain outside.
Quick trivia, the Gornergrat Railway was the world’s first fully electrified cogwheel train, operating since 1898.
